- girlfriend christmas gifts - the guide
I swear if I read one more of these gift guides in magazines that advise you to buy Christopher Kane sequin dress for mere £2970 (Elle Magazine) I shall scream. God knows in the times of credit crunch every one can afford to buy their girlfriend a set of underwear for £95 or a cookie purse £460 (Vogue.com), which is very cute and she’s gonna use it approximately twice… I say sod it. If you’re a geek or if you don’t want to leave the house yet still want to get something nice as a Christmas gift for a female human being this is all you need
- vector love
The way vector graphics work make them really easy to manipulate and move around, so you basically end up with a choice of ready made elements that you can compose into whatever lay out you like. Or put them in place of other elements to add this extra web 2.0 look (rss feeds icons etc etc). You only need very basic adobe illustrator skills. Slightly distinctive look can really make a difference in the day and age that everybody and their dog have a blog. Don’t be lazy.
- digitalize
it is really tough to convert people from one mind set to the other (as usual). For which reason I decided to cut back on preaching and get on with the practice. Enter digitalize - which will be a new series of interviews and reports looking into how creative industries utilise (or not) digital media and the Internet.
- Tired of IT
I write a monthly column for a Polish business magazine, who’s readers consist mainly of mid to large business owners, some journalists, all the members of Parliament and several other politicians. We know our readers base quite well, as a matter of fact we have an almost complete list of all of them, because we sent the magazine of to every single one. They are not technology illiterate, but not overly competent either. My job is to indicate new trends in technologies to this audience. In this the second instalment of my efforts.
- freedom fighting at the gates of hell
The Mac Girl Opensource Challenge is back! I started it off mid-way through the summer but then life got in the way. If you’re not familiar with the concept here is the intro write-up. However dear friends it’s not that easy. I installed Linux on a virtual machine. This kind of defeats the purpose since a virtual machine business would already scare half the non-techs away. Or about 80%. Secondly there’s a software issue. Mac OS comes only with bootcamp, which is officially for installing windows (yuk!) and indeed you have to do that first to then install linux. Plus it partitions the drive and it’s a whole lot of hassle….
