OK. Every year I sod the new years resolutions, as I generally have a new resolution every other day, so really there is nothing special about new year in that matter. I actually like to take this holidays off from resolution-ing. But I like the clearance – it’s good to get rid of useless thoughts every now and then, since they grows and mashroom in no time and can get really cluttering. So here goes – i decided to share my things I will be thinking much less about in the coming year because maybe, just maybe, you’ll agree some of them are not worth so much time and it will free some space in your head too.
1. social media.
Why? Seriously, this is mainly due to overdoing in this past year. Web 2.0 social networkings, services, object based networks, strategies and so on and so on make me queasy these days. It’s not entirely useless stuff, some of this grew around actually substantial matters (the indie film-supporting social media have become something really special), but good God, most of it is all about selling one’s self, fancy dressed as ‘evolution of communication’ and ‘networking’. Youkh.
2. are the traditional media dying?
Every media in Britain, other than digital, are currently on minus when it comes to growth of advertising spending (digital growth slowed down from two digits number too, so steady there). 4 or 5 press titles will be closed in 2009. Still, call off the funeral. They are loosing revenue fast and they need to readjust. Better spend time thinking how to readjust (this however is not my job, so sod it).
3. the ultimate mobile phone.
We’re well on the way there. I used an iPhone for 2 weeks and I’m sold – even though it has flaws and I still have a bitter after taste of how Apple over-hyped the whole thing. Normal (so called normobs) people I know are starting to use than as all around communication tools and constantly for internet services – so manufacturers will have to catch up. End of story, get over it.
4. inferiority of digital video camcorders to film cameras.
Because 2008 brought the introduction of video capable digital SLRs and even though I can’t afford the Canon 5D - I haven’t finished writing the script yet.
5. Google taking over my life.
Because there is no Chrome for Mac yet.
6. Is jaiku actually better than twitter?
I know I never wrote about what lead to this question being asked, but it’s too late now that I found the whole thing over-rated. Recently I find people who take part in microblogging take it far to seriously. Neither service provides you with real conversation, and this doesn’t devalue them totally, but it’s healthy to keep it in mind. If you don’t believe me, believe lifehack: ”You can call it networking or marketing, but either way, you’ve spent time that certainly could have been put to better use on trying to connect with the kids in your third grade class.”
7. ways of curing hangover
Apparently there is none and we all have to live with it.
